Default In cabin (interior) air filters

I didn't know how important it was to change the interior air filter in Hondas. I just changed them in my '98 Accord and '01 CRV and I was shocked to see how much dirt and grime they have filtered. The Accord has 110k and the filters were black and actually had a bit of mold buildup from moisture. The CRV has 50K miles and the filter in it was dirty but not to the extent of the Accord. Yuck! Just think, my family has been breathing this filtered air.

My advice, gained from this experience, is to not forget to regularly change the in cabin air filter at the prescribed intervals.

I had a '98 Accord that got the cabin filter change every 30,000 miles. The new filters would go in white and come out black.

I changed my cabin filter just after I came back from Alaska. It was so dirty even for a suv with 6,050 miles on the odometer at that time.

Smile How to change pollen filter for Accord?

My wife drives a 02 Accord and it has about 16,000 miles on it. I just wondering if anybody could post some procedures/pictures on how to change the pollen filter on the accord? (I intend to do it myself) Looks like the accord has a different glove box design. Thank you!

You might want to post this question in this Accord forum.

Thumbs up Found the answer

Thanks Jay! this is a great link about Accord. Anyway, I found the DIY procedures from the www.v6performance.net. 98-02 accord does have a different procedure to remove the glove box.

Default cabin filters

cabin A/C filters get dirty fast if you smoke, and if you drive with the fresh air vent open. They filter is there to filter out the air you breathe, I personally think its a hoax(but it works), if they didnt put the filter there in the first place you wouldnt need to change it, but since it is there if you do not change it the air in the car will start to smell stagnant like getting into a smokers car, it smells stale.

You can always drive without using the fresh air vent as much, plus I recommend not parking the car with it open because it still filters the air getting inside.

If you drive with the vent closed all you are filtering is the air inside the car( driving with window open, A/C air, smelly things like air fresheners, burgers from fast food joints, girl friends perfume you dont want the wife to know about, or burps(gas) that take the service elevator down.

Honda uses two types of cabin filters: regular thin filter and the super thick micro fiber poly kind which cost twice as much as the regular.

I recommend not parking with fresh air vent open also because mice, leaves, and debris get in and make your air duct system their new home. The mice chew up your engine wire harness(lots of money to replace) and a lot of the insulation from the firewall and build a nest in your blower housing, it restricts the air flow from the blower burning out the motor faster, then they die from you closing the vent and turning on the heater and then leave a nice dead smell. All this could of been prevented if you had the fresh air vent closed.

I see this at least 3 times a month.
