Unhappy check engine light

well, awhile ago the check engine light came on in the pilot so my mom brought it to the dealership. well the first thing they checked was how many miles and it was getting close to 15,000. so they were like "you need a 15,000 maintenance done" NO KIDDING, any idiot could of told me that. they charged us around 200 just to get various fluids replaced and inspections of the vehicle stuff, you guys should know b/c you've probly had it done too.
but my thing is about the ses light, is it going to come on like for the 30k, 60k, and 90k service? becus i can do all that maintenance myself and save money but the light probly wont go away unless i take it up to the dealership.
sorry for this long post, i just had to rant

Are you sure it was the "Check Engine" and not the "Maintenance Required"

Check engine should ALWAYS be related to an error code from the engine controllerf and you should ALWAYS ask that the eror code be recorded on the work order.

Maintenance Required is tripped by milage from the last time it was reset.
The dealer is SUPOSED to reset it each time the oil is changed.
Whether oir not it is on, that way it will warn you when you are aproaching the time for the next oil change.

If you do your own maintenance you can reset it. You can turn the light off by turning on the key while holding in the mileage odometer reset button for about ten seconds on the instrument panel. I would do this only after routine maintenance and not recommend when it goes on by itself.

I going along with the maintenance light, a check engine light should have given them a repair code to discuss or work on. One thing you have to remember is if you do not turn the gas cap past tight with three clicks the system can give a check engine light. If this happens tighten the gas cap make sure it is past tight by three clicks and the light should reset.

Default Mine too

My check engine light came on.
Dealer said that there is a recall on SRS control module which caused it. They did the service for that.
There is also a timing belt tensioner recall, which they did.

Make this clear, was it a check engine light or maint req. light?

Why would the Check Engine Light come on for an SRS problem? There's an SRS light for that.

And the recall for the SRS was a software update, not something that caused the SRS malfunction light to come on.

Default SRS?

Jay, it's a good point...
I didn't know the SRS was a software update.
Also, my check engine and the VTM light came on... I forget what he did for it...
