Question Fram Oil Filter

I know that oil filters and change intervals have been discussed at length on this site, so sorry for another one...

Does anybody use the fram 7317 filter for their Pilot? I purchased one and installed it on my '04 Pilot. I know Fram are not the best filters out there and I probably won't use it again, but I didn't have time to search for another one. My question is: I noticed that this filter is quite different in size than the Honda OEM filter that came on my vehicle. The rubber gasket on the two filters lines up, but the factory filter is wider, whereas the Fram is longer and thinner. Once installed on the vehicle, I did not notice any leaks and things seem to be running right. This is the filter that Fram's 2004 catalog lists for use with the Pilot. Does anyone else use/have used this filter on their '04? Will it be okay despite the size difference?

Thanks

Consumer Reports consistently list Fram filters as some of the best on the market.

the big filter you got on your pilot was probably remaining inventory. honda has switched to the new smaller filter on almost all of their new cars. (s2000, maybe NSX? are the exceptions) both sizes fit and work correctly on our pilots.

When was their last test? Last one I saw was many years ago when Frams WERE good. They were bought out though and went to hell IMHO. Pretty much every internet motorhead site that has disassembled filters says they are junk.
If you can reference a recent (last few years) Consumer Reports comment on them I'd like to know, I can't find anything on CR's website.

OK Al, you may be right. The last test I saw from CR listed Fram filters as the BEST, and it was a few years ago. How long ago I don't remember. But the older I get the more it seemed like just a few months ago.......................
I will say this about ANY type of gearhead opinion: take them with a grain of salt. After all the Chevy Vega was MotorTrend's Car of the Year.

I have 2 honda's and 1 Acura they all use the same filter. I have used and cut open Fram, A/C, Purolator, Nippon (This was the maker of some of the old honda filters.) Wix and Napa Gold (same as Wix) I don't care if its the special fram with the black slip proof bottom, fram and A/C filters are Junk, any others I listed are fine. Let's not forget the new OEM filter made by Filtech. These filters are smaller but appear to have about the same filter surface area.
