of using Mobil1 0W20 at $3.79 per quart or Amsoil 5W20 at $4.99 per quart, what would you use?
I change the oil and filter every 7500 miles...

I would use the Mobil 1, because I think it is a better oil. If you want to save a little cash, buy it in the 5 quart bottles at Walmart. But, the cost of oil is peanuts, when compared to the total expense of Pilot ownership. So, you should use what ever you think is best.
BTW: Why is it the dino users always rip the synthetic users, and not the other way around? Lubrication envy?

I don't think it's so much the dino users ripping the synth users as so much them having learned from experience that, as long as you follow the recommended maintenance interval for the oil/filter, you won't have any engine problems or failures attributable to the type of oil you use, even if it's dino.
I use Mobil1 stuff and I follow the severe maintenance schedule. I know, it's totally overkill, but that's just how anal I am. So, as long as you follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, I don't think you can go wrong either way. |

N_Jay - $0 deductible comprehensive insurance is the way to go. colorider - run your tires with a bit more pressure, in this case 38, foe the best tire wear and gas mileage. colorider - dino oil every 5000 miles. jay - with oil discussion, I lately have begun to ask has anyone here ever had an oil-related engine failure?? No positive answers have surfaced yet. jay - this thread is worthless without pics. I'd bet dollars to donuts that we won't go 7 full days without one of the first 4 responses being posted in some form again.

As for oil related failures, none except running leaky engines dry! All other engine failures were driver or mechanic induced! (Usually the same person!)

I used to be a religious Castrol fan till I rebuilt a VW motor and the factory manual stated in bold letters: Do not use Castrol during break-in.
It went on to say - Castrol oil is formulated to hold it's molecular structure under extreme thermal conditions. In order to accomplish this - lubricants are replaced with agents to maintain this structure. Cams especially are prone to premature wear during breakin. They stated you must use an oil with high lubricant content (and lessor thermal ability) like Valvoline. Everything is a compromise I guess. Unless you go with a quality synthetic like Mobile 1. |

I now have 3 hondas and use 10w30 in all (Yeah I know) Anyway 4yrs. ago I sold a Honda Accord to a friend with 227,000 mi. on it. Used nothing but Castrol dino 10w30 and changed oil every 3,000 miles. The car now has 270,000 miles on it and does not use any oil. My wife's car, 99 Accord has 98,000 miles and uses no oil. My Daughters car, 96 Civic has 142,000 miles on it and uses no oil, and the pilot has only 3,800 miles on it. So with all that said, How can someone justify the need and expense to use an synthetic oil
