Default Rear Wiper Blade

Before I break the rear wiper off, is there any tricks to replacing the wiper insert? I could twist and pull the old one off, but there must be an easy way just like the fronts? Any ideas?

There is no easy way. The way the blade is shaped, it makes getting the insert off and a new one on extremely difficult. Some members have opted to replace the blade at $20 + instead of wrestling with a $4 + insert.

I agree with Jay on this one. I almost cut my thumb trying to remove the rear wiper blade insert. If any Piloter knows an easy way to replace a wiper blade insert, please post it.

I replaced the insert on Friday. I bought the inserts for all 3, just in case. I only needed the passenger side.
The guy at service counter hears me ask the parts guy, if the installation is straight forward, and he comes outside to show me how. Now that is service.
Anyway, he showed me how to do the rear was by Lifting the insert part enough to clear the housing, and you pull away the insert. You will notice that the bottom of the insert has a "V" shape just squeeze this and push away (making sure the top of the insert is slightly bent to clear the wiper housing). Save the two stainless steel bars on the outside of the old insert. Be careful not to bend these bars. Place the steel bars on the new insert, and slide it back.

Default WIPER BLADE REFILL (REAR)

I replaced my rear wiper blade two weeks ago - the procedure is as outlined by Sunday Rider above, however I used a pair of pliers to "pull" and ease out the old insert (I found the pliers had a better grip on the rubber than my fingers - you will notice that one end of the blade has a piece of metal clip that holds the refill in place, thus you can only pull the blade out from that end - you need to pinch the metal clip together and pull the insert out of the track - it is a very easy process). It is IMPERATIVE that you save the two metal frames from the old rubber insert and use it for the new refill (if you destroy one or both of these metal frames you will find yourself at your local Honda Parts counter to buy a complete new wiper blade (not just the refill - the Honda rear window blade REFILL does NOT come with two new metal frames).

I replaced mine with a non-Honda refill from Advance Auto Parts (I purchased a 14 inch (make sure it reads NARROW Refill), and had to snip off about 1/2 inch with a pair of scissors to match the old refill length (I believe the cost was about 50 percent less than what Honda wanted for their refills plus you get two refill inserts in a package instead of just one that you would get from Honda. Total time to replace the blade is no more than 5 minutes.

Default Rear Wiper Blade refil

Here's a picture that may illustrate what I am talking about.
The reference to arrow 1 is to show where you have to bend the refill a "bit" to get it over the lip of the arm that holds it in place.
Arrow 2 is where the stainless steel bar is (one on each side). Just pull out slowly while squeezing the blade. If you put some water on the blade (as long as it is not too cold) it will make it slide easier.

Don't let the holder slam against the glass once your remove the refill, you will get a scratch. The guy at the dealership told me, someone did that with the front ones and cracked the windshield.

I for one, always thought you replace the blade from the arm on, I didn't think they sold refills. So this is environmentally better..

It took longer to edit and post the picture than to replace all the blades. LMAO

Very Funny RSeery. What makes me mad, is I splurged the day before and bought the works, at the touchless wash. It missed some spots so I got to go again for free. What a clean feeling... lasted 12 hours.

Actually that is not my Pilot, it is just a model......

Praying for some long term sunny days.

ROFLMAO!!!

I just did the EXACT same thing!!! Splurged on the touchless kicka$$ wash/wax, and then it lasted about a day.

I'm still laughing at your 'model' comment....

Default Rear Wiper Re-fill/Replacement

Thanks Sunday Rider and all my fellow Piloteers! The pics Sunday Rider posted are dead on. Just a little tugging and the old blade comes right off. The new one will go on just about as easy.

Just replaced my rear blade with the OEM refill. A dab of soap straight from the bottle along the sides of the old and new inserts does a great job of lubricating the rubber so it slides right off and on. Best to do this right before washing your car.

If removing it is your only issue, I used a pair of dikes and cut it in the middle. Presto wammo... no worries. Inserting the new one takes some effort, but is doable.

You guys have to make sure that the wiper arm itself does not grab the stainless steel bars otherwise the wiper will not wipe the top part of the glass correctly. Make sure the wiper holder clasps on the rubber instead of the bar. It was kind of difficult to get it right but I finally corrected the problem.

I just replaced mine with the rubber insert from a 14 inch anco. Pain in the ass... and I'm having this problem

I think I bent the bars after all the effort it took to get the damn thang in there. Next time I'm going to spend the $20 and just get one from the dealer..
