Unhappy Stuck on first step of repair

Folks:
I am hoping to replace my broken driverside mirror actuator on my pilot. I got help in the forum and the relevant pages from the service manual. Being a novice on my very first car project I am stuck on the first step. I am directed to remove the mirror mount cover by detaching the clips and releasing the hooks. The clips are behind the cover, do I just yank at the closest side to detach the clips? I did not want to apply too much force without knowing for sure that that is the right way to do it. I don't want to do more damage while trying to repair one. Hope someone can help me out of my misery.

I have attached an image provided by a kind member.

Default Why?

Welcome to a fellow Jerseyan...!

Sorry I can't help, but I was wondering why you are doing a repair under warranty? Why not let the dealer handle it?

The mirror broke because I hit the side of my garage door. Didn't think that was covered by warranty. Actually I was at the dealer and he gave me an estimate and did not say it would be covered. Was I duped? If so to the dealer.

I was going quite slow, the housing did collapse back, but for some reason the mirror glass with holder made a loud sound and broke. It broke from at the plastic flexible joint on which the mirror holder moves! I guess its my bad luck, and the plastic is too weak if you ask me.

I would try rolling down the driver's window, wrapping a screwdrivers with tape & prying the piece away. I would try to place the screwdriver between the top 2 clips.

Default mirror help

vjp,

This may help with excellent diagrams for removing and replacing mirrors, mirror wiring, and housing replacements for Pilots. You will need an acrobat reader to view.
