Default First oil change?

I have read somewhere on this forum about when to do the first oil change. I have read that some dealer(s) recommend at 1000 miles, while others recommend at the regular maintenance schedule.
Here is a quote from the Honda Owner Link...

Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?

Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.

American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.

Default First Oil Change

We waited 3500 miles. It was a combination of impatience to wait to 7500 miles, laziness that we didn't do so sooner, and general recommendation. The next oil change is scheduled for 7500 miles.

Thanks,

EDR

Yes, I am planning on every 5,000 miles also. I find it very easy to look at the odometer and remember 5000 intervals.

That has worked great for me (for the last umpteen years)!!!

I rotate tires at the same time, so it's real easy to keep track of everything. Takes me about 45 minutes to an hour each time for oil/filter/rotate/check fluids.

Well, I was going to start a new thread til I found this one.
Our Pilot is now 3 months old and Honda recommends to change at 3 months or 3,500 miles, right? Well, it's only got 2000 miles on it. So when do ya think I should change it?

If you do a search you wil find about 10 more threads on the topic.

As for what people think;
500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 3500, 3750, 4000, 5000, 7500, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, "You change oil?"

That should cover it!

Most here seem to believe Honda's recommendation of between 3750 (severe) and 7500 miles.

The Honda Pilot owners manual recommends the first oil change at 7,500 miles in normal conditions. In severe conditions it's 3,750 miles.

I just had my first oil change yesterday at my Honda dealer. In my own case, my mileage was 3,750 because I'm in a severe condition desert area. My dealer recommended that I change my oil every 3,750 miles. The technician stated that they only use regular oil for the first oil change and don't add the break-in additive that was in the original oil.

I paid a total of $26.76 which breaks down to $12.40 labor, $12.55 parts (filter & oil drain washer) and oil plus tax/ misc. $1.81. They used a regular Castrol GT 5W-20. My next oil will be Mobil 1.

My dealer have an express lube department and it took only less than half an hour. They gave me and my son complimentary drinks while we were waiting and a free car wash. My 5 yr. old son enjoyed riding the Honda wave-runners and ATVs on display.

Thanks for the info I believe that I am "severe" myself because of my short trips. That means I'm coming up on my first oil change in a few thousand miles.

Default change oil

The owners manual warns not to do the first oil change before the recommended schedule (which I think is 7500 miles) yet the dealer gave me a book with schedules recommended at 5000miles. Is driving around on short trips (acting like a taxi for your kids) considered hard driving? Right now I'm still trying to put the 600 miles on the vehicle to get it over the break in period.....
