Question transmission oil level on dip stick

There are three holes in our transmission fluid dip stick. Two near the bottom and one closer to the top (handle). When I checked the fluid level with the Pilot idling at operating temperature, I shifted up through all gears and back to park, and checked the level while it is running. The fluid level was very close to the center of the dip stick, ie. well above the two bottom holes, but below the top hole. First, I believe I followed the manual, but to your knowledge did I do this correctly? If I did it correctly, is this what I should see on the dip stick? The manual made it sound like the level should be between the bottom two holes, and it doesn't mention the third hole at all unless I missed something.

The 03 manual states that you are supposed to ck the fluid level with the vehicle off, rather than on. Also, the 03 dipstick only has two holes-
