Default Oil Change Intervals Answered

Lots of oil change threads around here so I'll get to my point and clear some things up.

Oil change is required after the first 3000 or so miles because the oil that is shipped in the vehicle has special additives and such for engine break-in. The recommended interval listed in the owners manual is usually reserved for after the inital 3000 miles.

There are those that change their oil religiously at 3000 miles, 5000 miles, etc. for whatever reasons they have. Just like there are still people who feel they need to sit and let their car warm up for 5 minutes before driving off. The only way to truly determine how often you need to change your oil is to get YOUR oil tested. Here is just one of the companies out there that will do this.

http://www.blackstone-labs.com/index.html

Some say changing their oil at 3K miles is cheap insurance. That's fine. But for those that want to know how long their oil really does last, give this place (or find another) a try. A single analysis is about the price of an oil change, but you may find out that you can actually go longer (or even shorter ) than what you've been going. Good peace of mind if you ask me.

PS: I have no affiliating with this place or anything. Just a heads up for some of you.

Congratulations on using a very definitive thread title for a very subjective discussion. Let the games begin.

Not me - but you may!!

If I was pushing the limits with an engine, I think it would be money well spent - just for peace of mind.

YMMV

Sure is. I was showing her some posts on here (WWong's goodies, scrunch, etc) then detoured to show her Colorider's picture of Whacko Jackson's OJ style police pursuit. She was impressed with all the good information here, and the other fun posts. Within a few minutes she was signing up. (Personally, I think the naked boobies put her over the top).

I guess that's another endorsement of this awesome site.

Manchester?? Went right through there on my recent motorcycle trip!! I "was" going to spend the night there at the KOA, but got antsy and kept rolling for a "Saddlesore 2,000" (2 back-to-back 1,000 mile days) on my home.

Aw man, you rode right through my (previous) neck of the woods!!! Wish I would've known your route ahead of time...

Here's the Olde Fart after 2 back-to-back 1,000 mile days on his 2-wheeler...

Yeah - if I make any similar rides next year, perhaps we can hook up!

I was a bit on the tired side when I rolled in, although not quite as bad as your picture!!!

Yes, definitely let me know your itinerary if/when you ride out East for bike meets or other functions -- like I said before, if you need a place to crash for the night, you're more than welcome at Ziploc's house...

Ziploc ===> <=== kemosabe

(Just kidding, you can spend the night on the couch... )
