Default Maintenance Required Indicator Reset

According to the owner's manual, the indicator is supposed to flash between 6000 and 7500 miles and then stay on over 7500 miles until reset...

...so the question is, did anybody else not have that happen? I hit the 8000 mile mark and neither of the above two scenarios happend -- not a big deal, I guess, but I was just curious if it was just me?

That's a good question. Now that I think about it, my reminder light never came on, even once. May be the dealer resets it when you go in for a service and those of us who've been taking it in earlier than the recommended interval end up not seeing it? Just a guess.

Mine came on at the 6000+ mark, and again recently at the 16000+ mark. I assumed that the techs reset the thing like the manual says they are supposed to when you take it to the dealer for service, but it obviously wasn't reset this last time at my 15k service.

Re setting the indicator is part of the maintainence. the tech should do it. If not, there are instructions in your owner's manual on how to re set it.

I saw my service manager do it. What he did was hold down the trip meter reset button while he started the engine.

Interesting -- so far, other than possibly RipRocK, everyone else had their indicator come on at the correct time...

My Maintenance indicator started flashing around 6000 miles. I am up to 6700+ and it is still flashing each time I start the car. I plan to schedule my service soon.

I am will soon start researching local dealers on what the price is and what they include.

BTW - Called the dealer I purchased my Pilot from and mentioned sagging leather seats and they acted as if I was from another planet. They told me they had not heard that from anyone else, but they would take a look at it.

More interesting results, indeed... Seems like I'm the sole owner who's Pilot did not remind me it was time for the scheduled maintenance!

Now comes my dilemma -- should I do something about it (take it to the dealer) or just ignore it since it's just a reminder light?

Was that your first oil change?

Could the dealer have correctly reset it the first time extending when it would come on? (Nah, no dealer actually resets these till bugged about it.)

N_Jay: I didn't have the Pilot oil changed at the dealer -- it was done by an independent guy (whom I've been using since 1993). I doubt he would've known how to reset the light, but stranger things have been known to happen!!!

I vote ignore it. The darn thing comes on at the wrong time, anyway. If it could be programmed to come on 300 miles before 3750 or 7500 miles since it last came on, it would be a decent reminder. Coming on at 6000 miles, it's just a pain in the butt.

I'm now curious about my reminder light too. I've never had it come on at all. However, I've been servicing my Pilot ahead of each of its recommended interval by about 1,000KM (about 600miles) and perhaps the dealer reset the light then OR, is that a rather contradictory statement? You can't reset something that didn't come on, therefore, my service reminder light/system is not working properly? As Vinnie Barbarino on "Welcome Back Kotter" used to say, "I'm So Confuuuused."

Confused easily?

It starts blinking at 6000 miles (US version, who knows what a CA/Metric Pilot does).
It only blinks during start up to remind you that service is needed soon.
It comes on steady at 7500 miles to tell you that service is past due.

These mileages can be reset at any time, and will be 6000 and 7500 miles past the reset. e.g. If reset at 5000 miles, the light will start blinking on the first startup past 11,000 miles.

Remember, it is designed for the average driver who is not a service conscious as us!
