I am about to embark on doing this in my wife's 2010 Touring and have some older ATF-Z1 and a quart of ATF-DW1. The Z1 is about 8 years old but never used, is it OK to use this still? Can I mix it with the DW1 if I need a little more to top it off? I have about 3.5 quarts of Z1.
Is there any way to access the oil return hose to the ATF cooler? I think if this can be easily accessed and be able to disconnect it we can fully drain all of the ATF.
Hint, first drain from the bottom of the car and fill, then attach a clear plastic tube to the oil return line and put the end that plastic tube in the container, have someone to help you turn on ignition key the pump will start to push the old fluid that was hiding behind in the Tranny( this ignition on remain a few second) and you'll start to see the ATF change color.
when you see that the new ATF is coming out, switch off the key and fill in the same amount that came out. you may need to do this procedure twice to get rid of the old fluid. reattach the return line and you're done.
I haven't done this yet on my 2009 Pilot, I do it all the time on my 2005 Volvo XC70 and it works perfectly as if the dealership would flush and fil it.
