Default Help removing crank bolt on 2011 pilot

Having trouble determining which direction the crank bolt needs to turn to remove it! Think its clockwise but not positive and it is tight, don't want to strip anything, stalled out waiting on an answer, anyone?

You wouldn't happen to be installing an underdrive pulley, would you?

Ok thanks, 1/2" impact is not getting it and I just broke a 1/2" extension using a breaker bar, not sure now. Soaked it in oil and regrouping now, maybe some heat on the bolt?
No under drive pulley, bad timing tension pulley I think the timing belt is loose!

You might need to borrow a stronger impact gun,not all guns have the same torque. And I'm not sure if the pilot has an opening at the bottom of the tranny(between tranny and engine) where you could see the ring gear(teeth where starter engages) older accords and CRVs have one. Just pry in a strong pry bar in one the teeth so crankshaft wont turn, then you can do it manually with a very long breaker bar (remember, counterclockwise) or you just keep trying with the impact gun. Heat is your last option because you might damage the crank seal( unless youre replacing it too) Hope it helps, good luck.

I used a breaker bar with two 4 feet pipes for more torque and just barely broke it loose on a Civic engine.

Crank bolts are really really tight.

READ THE ENTIRE POST BEFORE DOING THIS.

Use the starter to bump the motor with a breaker bar attached to the crank bolt.

Works every time.

Use some rope to secure the breaker bar to the lower control arm or sub frame. When you bump the starter, the bar will rotate slightly until it hits the frame.

YOU MUST DISABLE THE IGNITION SO THE ENGINE DOESN'T ACTUALLY START.

I do this by unplugging the 6 ignition coils and pulling the fuel pump fuse.

Above is another option but I wonder how the 1 inch impact do ( that's a huge gun right there) . No updates as of yet.

A 1" impact gun is great but if your using the little 1/4 air hose that comes with most compressors, you won't get anywhere near the max torque.

You'll need at least a 3/8", possibly even 1/2" hose to get the most out of that impact gun.

Ok regrouped mostly due to the fact that I figured out the power train warranty will cover the repair to 60,000 miles, that and it's the wife's primary wheels with the kids. Different story if it was a beater I drove.
So got it in to the dealer today to fix, will let you all know what they find. Thanks for the great ideas, will have to try that starter idea the next time I have to pull a dampner off an engine. Guess those little starters can put out the torque! My luck I would tear teeth off the flywheel!
Thanks again for all the replies.

Have a 3/8" hose and just figured I better not press my luck! Had to leave for work the next day for a week and did not want to try to figure out how to drill out what was left of a bolt the clean threads!
