Default Problem with Napa Gold Filter

Today I went to go change the oil in my 2011 Pilot for the second time. First time I used a Fram filter but now want to start using Napa Gold filters. However, the Napa Gold filter would not fit (would not screw on). I took it back and got another just in case there was an issue with that particular filter. Second filter did not work any better. Went back and they cross referenced the Fram filter # and got a different part number. I tried that and it still did not work. It was just before dark and looks like we are getting snow tomorrow, so I ran and bought a Fram to put it back together.

The strange part is that both Fram and Napa list the same oil filter # for the 2011 Pilot as my 2007 Accord 4-cylinder and both the Fram and Napa Gold fit the Accord. Very odd and I have also stumped everyone at the local Napa.

Is anyone else running a Napa Gold filter, if so, what is the part # you are using? Or has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you,
-Kevin

NAPA list several filters as replacements for the 15400-PLM A01 or 15400 PLM A02, all have the same thread 20 X1.5 mm:

Napa gold is made by WIX. The filter I like to use is the older larger one that was used on the 04 Pilots but the smaller ones is all you can buy at Honda. Here are some numbers. The small filter WIX 57356 / NAPA Gold 7356. The old larger in diameter but shorter filter which is what I run is WIX 51334 / NAPA Gold 1334

Thanks for the rely. I'm guessing that the two part numbers you listed are Honda part numbers, correct? I tried the FIL 7356 and the FIL 1356 (the part# that cross referenced from Fram #) and neither one treaded on. I have changed oil filters many many times and never had an issue and the new fram threaded on the first attempt. Do you run one of the Napa filters?

Wix 495-57356 apparently fits 2011 and I think make napa filters to.
Any chance a part of the old filter was left behind?

Seems Subaru uses the same wix filter and this thread compares wix, napa gold etc filters. Good photos to

I don't use wix or fram...after I ran out of Mobil M1-110's I bought a case of 24, Honda # 15400-PLM-A01's (Filtech) to service 3 of the 5 Honda's in the family fleet. Still have a couple of new stock Honda # 15400-PLM A02's (Fram) too. These all will work on 2003-2011 Hondas in the extended family. All of these cross reference to the NAPA filters I linked in the post above according to the NAPA website.

Maybe they have had a recent QC issue with the NAPA 7356, 20 x 1.5 mm thread oil filter, although could not find any reference to that in GOOGLE search tonight.

I run the Napa Gold 1334 (larger diameter filter)and buy them by the case for the Pilot , Accord and my wife's Acura To. But on the 07 Honda Civic that belongs to my daughter I have to use the Napa Gold 7356 because its smaller in diameter because the oil pan clearance is small. But it will also fit on the pilot and is the one the books calls for now for the Civic, Accord, Pilot etc. I just like the larger one (1334) for the Pilot, Accord and the Tl.
Some time when you want something to do take a hacksaw and cut the top off of you old fram, an Wix (Napa Gold), Purolator and a Honda filter, stretch out the filter material then post which one you think is the best

I think Purolator makes a good filter also, the L14610 (standard) or the Pure One PL14610. Maybe this would work for you, I have also ran this filter.

There is no issue with the threads on the vehicle since the new Fram and the old Fram screw right on.

Maybe it is a quality issue with Napa's filters, but I find that hard to believe too since I tried both the FIL 7356 and the FIL 1356. Also, the Pro Line (SFI 27356) that I bought at the same time threaded right onto my 07 Accord.

The Napa 1334 even lists the same thread size as all the others... I'm lost and the last thing I wanted to do is put the Fram back on.

Plenty of suggestions list above instead of the NAPA or Fram parts....Bosch, Honda, Purolator, Mobil 1, Wix (although they make the NAPA ones and may have a similiar issue)

I saved my old Napa Gold oil filter box it is label as "1356" from my last oil change, it worked fine. I plan on doing another oil change in a few days and I am going to Napa and buying the same one "1356". I don't expect any issues but if it does not fit I will post..

Napa 1356 and Wix 51356 is the same filter. But if you go to the Wix web site the 57356 (Napa7356) Is the one that it calls for almost all Hondas. If you compare the 2 different part # on the Wix site 51356 & 57356 the specs. are the same. I have also used both, Weird

Maybe it has something to do with re-branding, Wix makes allot of filters for allot of companies, that re-label them with there own name.
