Hello Everyone,
I have a 2005 Honda Pilot that has 69000 miles on her. I have done a good bit of the maintenance and I have had no problems so far. The pilot really is the best car I have owned. My question is after 7 years and 70000 miles should I replace the timing belt or do I have a bit of time to do this? The car runs fine but I am unsure if I should wait to about 80000 miles. I wonder is this more of a time problem or a mileage issue. I only drive about 10000 miles a year. Also my other belt really don`t show any wear. Any ideas on when it should be replaced? Thanks for your help. Late49er |

Recommended TB change interval is 105k miles or 7 years whichever comes first. Most follow that because the engine design is of the interference type. Which means the potential for valves crashing into pistons if the belt fails.
Mileage results in belt wear and age results in belt material degradation. |

I'd probably fudge a little on the 7-yr requirement at your mileage and wait another couple years, especially if you live in an environment where environmental pollution, smog, salt air, and extreme temp conditions are not common. Likewise if the car is garaged. But its a judgment call.

Hello and thanks for the recommendations.
My car is garaged. I live in northern nevada but really the dry climate and keeping the car out of the weather seems to make a real difference. Think I will wait a while. Maybe 75000 miles and then do it. Have to say a great car. Have an extended warranty that is good for another year. Actually the warranty with Honda was good to 114000 miles and mid 2013 but because I don`t drive a lot guess that wasn`t a good investment. I wouldn`t be surprised with proper car this car could do about 150000. |

I know of two with 200k, another that was at 170 when traded for a 2011. . Mines nicely run in at 128k
