Also, this says "Pad Set, Rear", does this mean it is sufficient pads for both rear wheels or do I need to order 2 (two) of these pad sets to allow both rear wheel pads to be replaced. OEM pad sets only include shims and sticky shim grease (and yes one set will do both rear brakes). You should definitely order the clips (called caliper hardware), but you don't need to pay extra for OEM ones ($30 total). you can buy Centric brand on ebay for about $9 shipped for the whole set. Centric is an excellent aftermarket company. They make all the stoptech big brake stuff which is becomming an OEM supplier of performance brake kits. Their prices are simply unbeatable and their quality is top notch.
BTW: If your not getting any vibration in the rear, just swap the pads out. No need to machine or replace the rotors. If you are getting vibration, look for a set of Centric premium rotors. Awesome stuff. Other than that, get yourself a can of brake-cleaner spray and a small packet of caliper lube (clear synthetic grease called syl-glide) from the Autozone parts counter. Remove, clean & relube each caliper slide pin one at a time (so they don't get mixed up). This will ensure your calipers will don't seize up. Last edited by 94eg!; 11-30-2011 at 11:52 PM. |

^^^ All very good advice.
Before replacing the clips (in the caliper brackets), I would attempt to give them a good cleaning first. These parts are plated and typically clean up with a wire brush very easily. I have only ever replaced them if they were broken or damaged beyond repair when removed. |

I see some on this board recommending you replace the pad retainers (clips). Keep in mind that while there is nothing wrong with replacing them, Honda doesn't recommend replacing them nor do the dealers generally replace them when they do brake jobs. I have done brake jobs twice on Pilots (with OEM pads), didn't replace them, and had no issues with the brakes. Frankly, I don't see why a simple metal clip needs replacing. Clean them up and then look and function like new. Again, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with doing it if you like.

I wouldn't replace the caliper retaining wire either. I mean unless it's broken why bother.
As said honda (and most others, by most I mean almost everyone) sells pads in 4s. That's two for each side on whichever side you bought. Just make sure to use that lube for the shims and antiseize on the sliding points. |

Don't use any lube on the sliding points for the pads. No honda shop manuals ever say to lube between the pads and the clips. And don't ever use anti-sieze on the caliper slide pins. You want a high temp silicone grease (usually called caliper grease).
