Hi Guys
Just found this great site and joined today. I need an advice from the pro's here. I have a 2004 Honda Pilot (owned since beginning) that has low mileage. Currently it has about 67,500 miles. I called my dealer to schedule a regular maintenance job and he suggested that I also do the timing belt replacement now because the vehicle is 7 year old regardless of the mile. What do you all think? Should I do it? They are advertising special right now for timing belt change for $499 that includes Honda GENUINE timing belt, water pump, drive belts, coolant and hydraulic timing belt tensioner on 6cylinder models. I live near Princeton, NJ which is not an extreme weather place. Welcome your advice on this. Thanks |

The Dealer is following Honda's recommendation of 7 years or 105k miles. If that includes labor it's a bargain.

I'd probably fudge a bit on the calendar time requirement with only 65% of the spec'ed miles - maybe go 10 years. But you can't go wrong with following the spec as written. This would be very conservative.
As said, if the $500 is the whole shooting match, that's a very good deal, less than half the going rate. But I bet they push hard to upsell you into other services or attempt to nickle/dime you to death with incidentals. Even so, if you actually get out at around $600, that would be a good deal. - Mark |

If your dealership is Honda of Princeton, then yes, it includes labor. See here:

A little piece of mind for a little dough on a vehicle that you own outright that you want to keep for years; sounds like a no-brainer for me.

My wife had her timing belt, water pump, tensioner, & idlers all done for a little over $300. The price was so low because she has cheap labor -ME :-0
