If you've done an oil change before the Pilots is very easy. Get an oil filter and crush washer for the drain plug from the dealer.
Turn the vehicle steering wheel full lock clockwise, that will help you get access to the oil filter. The oil filter is located by the passenger side wheel well, you won't miss it. Drain plug on the underside is marked by Honda stamped engine oil. Take a look at the owners manual also and confirm the locations of both. Most folks I think can do this without jacking the vehicle. If you do have to raise the vehicle follow all safety procedures. Remove the oil fill cap from the engine bay, remove drain plug and collect used oil in a receptacle. Replace drain plug with new crush washer and do not over tighten. Torque wrenches come in very hand and are a great investment, so you don't over tighten a bolt. If you plan on tackling more on your vehicle a service manual is a must. Remove oil filter and install a new one. Put some fresh oil on the new filter gasket to help for a good seal. Tighten 1 1/4 turn after oil gasket makes contact. Get your oil of choice and put in 4.5 qts in the engine. Start for a minute and check for leaks and tighten if needed. Check oil level on dipstick and add if needed, Done! Tough to type up and I think there is a problem with the search feature. Hope this helps. Sure others will chime in if I missed something.

^^^ Props for taking the time to write this up, but is this really necessary? If you have to ask how to change your oil, you're probably better off taking it somewhere...

We all had to be taught how to do certain things. Take the time to leave your mark by teaching others. I'm glad that someone took the time to teach me.

I fill the new filter with about 75% oil in it so that when you start for the first time that much oil is already starting to flow through. Not totally necessary but someone suggested I do that and I've been doing it for 10 years.
And go easy on the guy everybody learns something new for the first time. |

I use ramps, it make sit a lot easier.
If you use a jack, be sure to place it on jackstands in the proper position ( wish I could te;ll you exactly where the best spots are to place the jack stands but i am not sure where that is.... Anybody have pics ...this is probably the most important aspect of changing the oil as if you do this wrong the vehicle could fall and crush you |
