So I was doing the oil change this morning and I found these tiny orange things in the old oil. I don't think it's metal, probably rubber of some sort. It feels flakey so maybe it's some old gasket that is shriveling apart. Anyway I found a couple of those in the oil I took out this morning, should I be worried?
I don't think I've ever noticed it before but I can't be certain. *** Edit: Solved, it was the orange coating on the oil fiter that probably came off while I was trying to take the filter off. Last edited by samc; 04-02-2011 at 09:11 PM. |

Weird.
Never seen an orange gasket. My first thought was which oil brand has an orange plastic top to it. Thinking the ring had dropped in to the engine. Weird. If the car feels good, don't worry.

I'll keep my eye open but I agree with both of you, I can't recall any orange colored part on my car. But good one roarkrd, I'll check out the old oil filter before I throw it out.
Again it could have been loose dirt or perhaps something that feel off a tool or what not, I do use that oil pan for more then one car but today is the first time I noticed it. Edit: I feel so stupid. A very lol moment. After thinking in my head I used a fram oil filter which has a rubberish orange bottom. I used my oil filter wrench to take it off which crushed the sides and wore off some of that rubber coating and ofcourse the oil pan happened to be right underneath when I changed the filter. Thanks for the help guys .

I vote for the ring from the top of an oil bottle.
