Default What Motor Oil For your pilot?

Just Brand NAme and weight you use or like for your Pilot. Also filter brand.

This could be a good thread.

5W-20. Whatever the oil & filter special is at Advance or Autozone.

Why not...

I use Mobil 1 5w-20 when I can find it otherwise 5w-30 same.
And usually one of the following filters: mobil1, oem, fram, or purlator. Basically whichever I find on sale.

Mobil-1 0w20 will provide better cold start protection because the oil is thinner when cold. This also helps a little with fuel economy. Still not available in a 5qt jug though. Until it is, I'll be using M1 5w20.

I also use M1 filters, but I'm thinking about going to something less expensive. Not Fram or Honda A02 Honeywell filters (because of the cardboard end caps).

Honda A01 vs Fram Cheapo (same as Honda A02):

Nicer Honda A01 after 5k miles (yikes) vs Mobil-1 after 5k miles:

I purchased Chevon 5w-30 from costco when it was on an in-store rebate. Oil is oil to me so long as I know the name. When it comes to oil filters, I always use Honda. I know it costs more but I wonder if others do so too.

Honda A02 filters are junk. They are made by Honeywell (Fram). Same thing as the one I pictured on the top right, except it has a silicon drainback valve...

Yi! What filter do you use? The mobil 1 above looks good compared to the Honda.

Yes i have been using the Mobil 1 M1-110 filter or the M1-104. Either one works on the pilot, but they cost more and more each year. Walmart used to carry them for $9.99, but stopped over a year ago. Everyone else sells them for $13.99 or more.

PS: Here is a pic of a Honda A02 filter cut open. See how it's identical to the orange Fram (cardboard end-caps) but with more pleats and a upgraded silicone drainback valve. It might get the job done, but I don't like the idea of cardboard end-caps:

The Honda one I posted earlier is an A01 part number, but they were discontinued a long time ago. Very difficult to get ahold of. They are better quality, but still weak compared the most brands that have the metal end-caps.

The Fram extended guard (XG) series of filters have metal end caps:

Yes, and very few pleats. That means very little filter media...

Mobil 1 M1-110 is second from left - enough pleats for you, or not?
