Default Welcome

Why did you do this so early ? Major service involving spark plugs is at 105,000 miles . If you have your owners manual available, it should confirm this.

If you don't have an owners manual or need extra info on your vehicle. If you register here you can get access to that info:https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp

I owned a 2004 Honda Pilot EX-L until just recently (95K miles.) All I did was follow the manual and let the car tell me what it needed. In 95K miles/almost 7 years, it needed gas, oil changes, a few air filters, a cabin filter change (once), rear dif fluid changes (2-3 times), trans fluid drain/refill (once due only to towing), wiper blades, tires (once) and brakes (once.)

Anybody know where the engine #1 is? I 've tried to troubleshot the problem by moving around the spark plug but I always got engine PO3 code
Please help

If you've moved around the plug and still get a misfire on cylinder #1, then it's not the plug.

You might have a bad coil pack. Very easy to replace. Swap the coil pack from another cylinder and see if the misfire follows the coil pack. If it does, you just found your problem and here's one place to get a new one:

2006-2008 Honda Pilot Ignition Coil - Replacement REPH504612 - Coil pack, OE replacement

It's possible you have a bad fuel injector but i kinda doubt it with your mileage. Are you the original owner? if not, then maybe someone else messed around with the plugs and coils enough that they damaged one swapping them on and off the car.

Good luck! let us know what you find out.

I'm thinking along the line of crappy plugs. What plugs did you use when you changed them out?

I replaced with the NGK Laser Iridium sparkplugs as Honda recommended. Thanks CARGUY07! I'll change my coil pack base on your diagram and will let you know!
Thank you all for your great help!!!

Last weekend I swapped coil pack between engine #1 to engine #6 based on CARGUY07's diagram. I reset the error code. Two days later the check engine light was on again. It's PO3 engine #1 misfired again. (Now it is off by itself)
Please give an advice if there is anything else I should look for beside spark plugs and coild pack replaced?
Thank you.

Getting beyond DIY scope but you might have a fuel problem vs. a spark problem. Bad/clogged fuel injector could cause an occassional misfire. Do you notice the misfire while driving? Or is it transparent?

You've eliminated the coilpack, eliminated the spark plug itself by installing all new ones (assuming they are properly gapped.) It's starting to sound like a fuel problem to me.

Other possibility is a bad ECU (Engine Control Unit/Engine Control Module.)

Either would seem to be odd for a 70K mile 2006 Pilot (or for just about any car, for that matter.)

Although it's pretty early, it could be due for a valve adjustment. The MAP sensor voltage can give you some clues if it is ready. See post #7.

Thank you all! My car doesn't have rough idle @ cold start. I thought Bad/clogged fuel injector could cause an occasional misfire as bman5150 referred more likely close to my case

Time for Seafoam. By the way, my ECU blew out right after I purchased my 05 Pilot new. Dealer said that was highly unusual. Replaced under waranty and no problems for 110,000 miles.

P03 - Are you actually getting P0301? That would indicate misfire on #1. Otherwise, a P0300 code is "random misfire".

New diagnosis - bad/failing/clogged EGR valve. Makes total sense that you are not getting a misfire at cold start idle. EGR is "closed" until the engine is up to operating temperature. Once you accelerate and engine is warm, it starts working and hence - misfire occurs. It's basically not allowing enough or allowing too much exhaust back into the combustion chamber (more or less than what the ECU via oxygen sensors are expecting) and it's causing a slightly rich or slightly lean condition, causing intermitent minor misfires.

Actually, it's probably causing a lean condition if it's sticking or lazily closing/opening.

Semi-common 1st gen pilot problem, although I did not experience this on my 2004.

Good luck - I think this is the issue!
