I have an 05' Pilot with 57,500 miles on it and the "D" light has been flashing periodically...no shuddering or anything though like others have experienced, just the flashing D.

Anyways, thanks to NJguy's instructions I bought the 3rd gear switch, a 22mm deep socket and a torque wrench and replaced the switch last night, and it took about 45 mins. I didn't remove the wheel or jack the Pilot up, just moved the guards out of the way and could reach in.

The dealer who sold me the part recommended switching out the 3rd gear switch first since it's usually the one with the issue, then if I still have a problem, change the 4th gear switch out as well.

So a big thanks to NJguy for sharing his wisdom.

Even though I'm a total newbie to this forum, can I propose to the admin(s) that this thread be made a Sticky? There is a TON of misinformation out there about this issue (including lots who've been told to get a full transmission replacement!) and this thread has been invaluable to many of us.

Thanks

Got into it first thing this morning. The switches are now color coded, gray and brown, matching the switches removed from the car. Very little ATF came out.
Total time under the car, about an hour inc oil change.

Took it out for a drive over roads I know cause that shimmy/staccato feeling including one where I'd even taken to shifting to D3 as part of the test to see if I needed to do this. Initial reaction is positive and things have improved.

Looking forward to longer drive tomorrow to test it out over a complete spectrum of speeds.

I am starting to think these switches (especially 4th) should be replaced every 100k miles.

Absolutely. They are cheap to buy, easy to install.
