hi,
Do u guy consider EGR cleaning as regular maintanence? Or, you will touch it until u notice the problem? My pilot is 06 with 65K. I am considering to clean it out after this winter. thanks ray

Of course this is just my opinion and others may disagree, but to me, this falls into the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" category. Many Pilots never see any EGR problems, and there doesn't seem to be any advantage to cleaning it unless there's a code for it, the mileage is suffering, or it won't pass emissions testing. Mike |

The EGR ports on the 06-08 engines are designed differently than on the 03-05 engines, which were prone to the carbon buildup. I took off the intake manifold cover and checked things out on my 07, the ports were clean. It definitely looks different than the posts I've seen from the 03-05 models that tended to have those issues. Doesn't mean that your EGR valve is good/bad either, but if you are not throwing codes and/or your mileage is not getting worse and/or your engine is not running rough, I'd leave it alone. Replacing the EGR valve itself on the 06-08 is very easy, 10-15 minute job, and would cost under $100 for the part. OES is the OE manufacturer for the EGR valve.

If you want some resources in this one, try to find it out here and you may see what you can have in order to help you out, either to clean up, to maintain or to repair up your vehicle. In that way, things would have been good and can help you out pretty well.

Around 55k on my 2006 pilot, no hessitation no nothing. Only real problem I have with my car is that one of the dome lights does not work and a paint scratch on the bumper.
Other then that I see no need to open up my engine just for my curiosity. Obviously I will look further if I see any hesitation problems but honda reliability shines so far. |
