Default Chevron Techron and 60k

Okay I'm not OVER paying the stealership for 60k maintenance:

so I did the ATF, VTM myself, had the place I bought the tires from rotate them, and now I will do the cabin and engine air myself...

Question:

I want to add a fuel injection cleaner to a full tank of gas, I like Techron...but should I use their:

Complete Techron fuel system cleaner

or

Techron Fuel injector cleaner

or some other brand/type??

I agree with rocky. Unless you have some specific driveability or fuel economy problem to solve, there is really no need for a cleaner product. You can't make injectors cleaner than clean. If they're working fine, there's nothing to clean.

The way a lot of those products are advertised and evangelized (Lucas, Seafoam, B-12, Marvel Mystery Oil, etc.), you'd think the gas mileage would be so great that going to the gas station would be to drain off all the excess gas that had accumulated in the tank. In practice, any perceived benefits are probably worth less than the cost of the product and the risks associated with putting chemicals (solvents) into a system that does not need them and was not designed to handle them.

I'm not a believer in additives as a general rule, but fuel does build up deposits and varnish over time - that's the reason we have detergent gasolines, which are gas and additives.

And Techron is one with very proven benefits - if you run engines with and without Techron over a long period if time, the intake stream and especially the intake valves will have less deposits with Techron than without. As a gas additive, it's good stuff for a cleaner engine.

There may be other gasoline additives that work as well as Techron, but you don't see gasoline supplilers putting Marvel Mystery Oil or Seafoam in their products coming out of the refinery, so I think Techron deserves a little special status.

Now whether the benefits are worth the cost or whether putting an additional Techron dose every other oil change does much more good than running Chevron gas (which has a small amount of Techron already) or another Tier1 gas with a good additive package, is open to debate. It's quite possible that you get 95% of the benefit of Techron simply by running Chevron gas and adding more to a tank every year or so does little or nothing extra.

I bought a case at Costco a few years back because it was cheap and I had a coupon; I try to remember to do an extra dose every 10K miles or so, but I view it more as something that might be helpful and I'm pretty sure can't hurt. With most other additives, I view them more as possibly helpful but also possibly harmful, so I steer clear.

Chevron makes 2 different formulations of their bottled additive. Use the Techron Concentrate Plus as it has more cleaner than the Pro-Guard. I've used the stuff in my other cars once a year.

Thanks f2 racer, thats a good solid answer to my question.....the concentrate plus is the complete fuel system cleaner......the pro-guard is the fi cleaner

I piad the stealership for the 30k maintyenance and noticed they put some type of fuel system cleaner in my tank...but I dont remeber the brand....

....for those that doubt the usefulness of said products....if you ever have trouble with a car, and it could be fuel system related, try Techron...it is amazing.
