Default Genuine HONDA MOTOR OIL

I have been doing quite a bit of reading at BITOG, okay...maybe waaaay too much reading ( but its about putting oil in my 95 buick with 104k) and have stumbled acroos some interesting posts regarding honda motor oil.

Many on BITOG have said that Honda oil is just relabeled Mobil 1, others have said that Honda oil is a synthetic or synthetic blend, and others say Mobil 1 is not even a true synthetic oil.....they have some crazy discussions over there.

So my question is ...what is honda motor oil.....I usually go to the dealer for oil, as I get oil and filter for $26, about what I would pay (except perhaps I could get "better?," oil and a "better?'" filter -- as Honda filters are just the cheapest Frams but painted blue --) if I did the oil myself.

ANy truth that Honda oil is a blend?

is it made by mobil?

is oil a FLUID THAT YOU ARE BETTER OFF STICKING WITH HONDA BRAND LIKE ALL THE OTHER FLUIDS THAT YOU PUT IN A HONDA?

The Honda brand stuff is not a full synthetic oil like Mobil1 - just look at the cost/qt for starters. Many feel that is similar to one of Mobil's dino blends. The bottom line is that most oils these days are very good (search for UOAs on this forum) so just find one you like and stick with it. If your local dealer gives you a good deal on the Honda stuff then go with it. IMO, I like the regular Pennzoil conventional (yellow bottle) because you can get the 5qt jug at Walmart for $12 and has shown good UOAs up to a 7.5K OCI. This is what I'm currently using in my new Civic. For the Pilot I've used Mobil1 since the 1st oil change so that's what I'll keep using.

Also read that Honda motor oil is the same as what Ford is selling as both companies buy from the same supplier?

That makes sense since Ford is pushing 5w-20 as well. The most common theory is the Superflo (made by Mobil) flavor is the same stuff. The bottom line is that there's no need to stick with Honda motor oil if you don't want to, unlike the VTM-4 and transmission fluids.
