Default 2006 Pilot 4x4 Transmission Flush or Drain and Fill?

2006 Pilot EX 4x4 Transmission Flush or Drain and Fill?

I can't decide what I need. It has 61,000 miles on it, but I'm just bought a popup camper and plan to use it next spring. So before I install the Trans Cooler I need to get the transmission serviced. I'm getting conflicting advice from people on getting a "Flush and Fill" vs "Drain and Fill".

The dealer said they don't like to do a "Flush and Fill" unless it's really needed.

My co-worker (who used to be a mechanic) said to do nothing but a "Flush and Fill".....any advice???

I don't want to burn up my transmission towing this camper.

Drain and Fill. You want a little of the previous tranny fluid still in there, so as to not "shock" the tranny with all new fluid. I'm not being technical, but that's how I came to understand it. You would do a drain if the tranny doesn't shift correctly, or is seriously problematic.

How you want to flush and fill. The way I see it is if you say diconnect the return cooler line, put it in some old jar and run the motor while filling it up with fresh fluid then it can be said that it is flushing old fluid out while it is being replaced by new one at the same time. I guess if rate of fill matches with the rate at which fluid is running out of cooler line then Tranny will not notice mind that much.

I am myself confused. I did one drain and refill past Saturday and am planning to do a flush with remaining 9 quarts I have.

Other wise drain and fill will replace fluid very slowly. In my 4wd drain is 3.5 while total cpacity is 8.3 g so around 42% will be replaced each time.

1st drain and fill 58% old fluid remain
2st drain and fill 29% old fluid remain
3rd drain and fill 14.5% old fluid remain
4th drain and fill 7.25% old fluid remain --- May be we can say this is a good level.
5th drain and fill 2.41% old fluid remain ---

So I had orderd 13 q which means that I can be at 14.5% level which if I had done flush entirely I would be 100% replaced within say 10 q.

Regards,
