Red face same story from the stealership

Well I guess this is nothing new but I felt obligated to share it with my fellow Piloteers !!!
I went in today to get the oil changed on my 05 Pilot and they told me that I was going to need new brakes. Well this is where the fun began.
They said I need front & rear pads & rotors.
Front pads & rotors 399.80
Rear pads & rotors 379.95

The stealership told me that I have about 12 to 15% life left on the brakes. Not quite sure why I need new rotors if I replace the pads before they are wore out completely.
Perhaps some one can educate me on that one.
I know that I do not need any education to the fact that I can take that 800 dollars and funnel that to the oejeffrey foundation for love & happiness.

If you don't have any brake pulsation, just hang a set of pads. Most dealerships don't want to take the time to cut rotors anymore, and I don't think any dealership would hang pads without resurfacing the rotors....which may or may not be necessary. I usually don't, as long as they're not pulsing.

No pulsing as of yet. I am going on a short vacation and am going to change out the pads when I get back. Someone told me that Honda rotors are pretty soft and can only be turned one time. Does that sound about right ???
All I know is that this is definitely a D.I.Y. project. If I can get away with just hanging pads then the rotors can wait till next time. At this point I am wondering if it is even worth the time and expense of getting them turned ??

Not worth turning them when you can buy replacement rotors c/w pads for less than $40 per wheel shipped to your door.
If you can change your own oil, you can change the rotors and pads. Just have the right tool for getting the screws out that hold the rotors to the hub.
