Default Engine degreasers - are they safe?

I just wanted to see if any of my fellow piloteers have used engine degreasers to clean the engine compartment and what their experience was like? Is it safe to wash off the degreaser with water? Anybody has tips to protect electrical components?

Yes they are safe if used as directed.
Yes it is safe to wash off the engine with water.
It gets wet every time it rains.
You do not really need to protect the electrical components as the engine compartment is expected to get wet.

That said, try not to direct a high pressure spray directly onto the alternator or any of the electrical connectors.

i agree with humanoid, simple green is the way to go. engine degreasers can leave some nasty spots on paint (dark colors) if you overspray.
