Default Which auto parts place would you use?

With 115,000 miles on my 05, the dealer indicates the battery is weak at 490 amps and it came with 550.

Price aside, which place would you get a battery from if you travel around a lot, meaning you wnat to be able to handle warranty issues if you are out there on the road. I figure Advance Auto or Auto Zone are all over.

BTW - Dealer wants $125 for 100 month 550 amp battery.
Advanced wants $89.99 for a 700 amp battery.

Also, some have said that anything over the 550 it came with isn't that big a deal, in other words, a 800 CCA battery isn't going to be a big difference. Comments?

Are you saying that they tested it and it is failing or that it is undersized for the car and working fine?

Neither. It is merely weak and they recommend replacement. Am just considering age and all that I will probably go ahead and replace it as mine seem to quit with no warning. Not saying it is undersized but rather that replacements are usually larger and I hear that it is a waste to get a significantly larger battery. IE if it came with a 550, a 600 would be ok but a 900 would be a waste of money.

Walmart batteries are good too and they are everywhere.

I have never noticed ant difference in real life CCA. As long as you are at or over the factory spec they will all start the car if they are healthy. At least down to 5-10 below zero. Lower than that it might mean something.

I second the point on buying from a store chain with wide geographic coverage.

I have had a DURALAST rider mower battery for 5-6 years now. It still works. I will probably buy my next car battery from AUTOZONE.

At the first sign of trouble (maybe a year from now), I would go to Costco, Sams Club or Walmart.

There is not enough difference between brand names batteries to matter.

Are you saying there's no difference between any brand or name brand batteries?

Varta, Exide, and the cheaper no-name batteries are junk. I can't tell you how many of those we replace.

I replaced the battery on my '05 Pilot with the Advance Auto. Easy change and it is working well.

I've used Advance batteries on three cars, no problems yet.

I can't remember who but someone wrote that most batteries are made from 3 manufacturers. And that basically any reputable name will be fine. The thread also gave a thumbsup to walmart and costco brand (kirkland??) batteries.

I'll note that a van at work has an interestate battery and I had to change it out within a year. It could just be coincidence but it's enough for me to never buy an interstate battery.
