I'm thinking they used a longer plug that engaged the threads deeper.

I can't imagine stripping that hole, unless it was started crooked and driven on with a ratchet or air wrench. I mean if you hand threaded it up snug and then just tightened it with a 3/8 drive ratchet, it would be hard to strip as most aren't long enough to apply that much pressure.

More likely someone tried to remove it with a 3/8 impact or put it back in with one and stripped it.

Hey, after the Dealer replaced the tranny in 2001 Accord under the Honda trans warranty deal, I found 12 bolts missing, including the ones holding the battery tray, numerous hose brackets, etc. Thankfully, most of them were rolling around in the cowl area around the wipers

I agree, it looks pretty good. the only thing is the factory plug had a magnet on the end of it I believe, no idea what this thing has.

Dealer probably made the repair using a kit such as these:
