I only use this brand because someone recommended it on my old car forums, volkswagen. And pretty much everyone swore by it so I just went with the trend.
I know it isn't really necessary at 43k miles on such a new truck but I was told it doesn't hurt to put it so preventative measures are always good. So that naturally made me think is this stuff really any better then the $5 STP? What do you guys use?

You can use Techron or do as Honda advises and buy gas that already has a higher concentration level of detergent additives:

From Consumers Reports::
Chevron patented PEA chemistry in the early 1980s. Today, it's not only used in the company’s Techron Concentrate Plus, but also in fuel system cleaners from STP, Gumout, and Valvoline. In fact, many auto dealerships use PEA chemistry in the fuel injection-cleaning service they offer. So instead of paying $150, head over to your local auto parts dealer once every 3,000 miles, buy a fuel system cleaner with PEA, put it in with a full tank of gas, and save $140. |

I'm curious if anybody has ever seen a noticeable difference after using injector cleaner. I don't mean a performance difference. I mean has adding injector cleaner ever fixed a problem with the engine not running correctly. The only thing that's cleaned my injectors for the past 108K miles is the 87 octance fuel I put in the tank. Other than that, I open up the throttle now-and-then to let engine run hard when VTEC kicks in.

I use the Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner. Just did my first cleaning at 26K. I didn't have any problems I was trying to fix. Ran through a tank this weekend with Easter travel and filled up again last night.

I have never used any additive for oil or gas in any car or truck ever owned and I have yet to have one single fuel system failure or performance degradation other than a fuel pump fail on a Beretta GT V6 at 180k. Two other went past 200k before I solde them, still running like new.
My point? Additives are a waste. There are plenty already in the oil you use and the gas you pump, everyday. |

Interesting find. I've only had this Pilot since 93k miles. It now has 108k, and in that time I've only run Chevron 87 octane. Today I pulled the intake manifold in preparation for a valve adjustment. Upon removal of the upper intake manifold cover I discovered an oily greasy mess (with blocked EGR ports of course). After fully removing the manifold, I found the intake runners were in no better shape. A greasy black coating inside each one. But when I grabbed my flashlight and peered further down to the intake valves, i was astonished!!!
The entire area of the intake runners past the fuel injectors was SPOTLESS bright aluminum, and the intake valves didn't have even a hint of grime. To me this says quality fuels containing detergents is the ONLY way to go. I will swear by them till the day I die. GO CHEVRON! PS: I will NEVER buy a bottle of fuel injector cleaner ever again.
