Default Serpentine Belt - Which is tensioner?

I have a 2006 Honda Pilot.

I have searched here and on the net and bought a Haynes manual...but no luck so far. I see two pulleys that could be tensioners, one with a regular bolt in the middle and the other with a torx bolt. The one with the torx has an aluminum arm coming out from behind with a box end wrench type of bolt on the end. The aluminum arm was what I thought would be used to leverage the tensioner off the belt....but it would not budge. Any thoughts?

Looking straight down, in between the oil dipstick and alternator is the tensioner pulley. To the left side of the pulley is where you put your wrench (14mm). With the wrench straight up, you move it toward the windshield - similar to how you put a manual tranny into first gear.

It helps to have an extra-long wrench for better leverage or you can use a pipe over a standard wrench. Otherwise, it will take some good forearm strength to move it. If you feel like you're putting a lot muscle into it, the tensioner may be stuck and needs to be serviced or replaced.

Default Pully

Thanks!

I will take a look.

It sounds like the one I thought. When I stand on the passenger side of the engine compartment looking at the pully....the arm with the 14mm is on the right hand side of the pully. When you said left, was it from looking staight down from the front of the car?

Thanks, Mike

Yes....standing from the front. The bolt is right next to the frame rail.

Default Still can't find it

Does anyone have a factory diagram that shows which bolt to use to release the tension. I don't want to crank on the wrong bolt and cause major damage to the wrong part.

Default Serpentine Belt - Quick and Easy

I agree with ED27. I followed his suggestion and it all was a breeze. Belt changed in maybe 10 minutes.
