Anyone replace power steering fluid?I brought the pilot 06 with 49k. and the service advisor said I would change the power steering fluid because it smell burned. Aside from oil& filter change. And I decline because maybe I could get DIY procedure here and it cost 118$ in the dealer to change those fluid. I had a confidence that I can do it if theres a DIY procedure like what I did in ATF,VTM4,polen filter, air filter and some little stuff. I would greatly appreciate if somebody can point me how to do it. Thanks.

If the vehicle was used for towing, but does not have the power steering cooler installed, you might need to replace the fluid. Otherwise it should last longer than 49k. However---
Here's what the cooler should look like: http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AI/AII37138.pdf Although this is not from a Pilot forum, this should give you an idea of what's involved. Some things are common across the Honda line: http://www.elementownersclub.com/for...ad.php?t=56834 |

I don't see a PAS fluid change at three years in my ownerslink, but I do see brake fluid change at three years under the severe schedule.
Normal is fine even with occasional severe usage.

I'll ask since I don't know the answer. Why would I want to change my power steering fluid. Or better question does it have a driving life and at some point would cause problems to your power steering? And if so what?
On my volkwagen it was suggested that you never change it and only top off if it ever went low, and ofcourse it never did. Atleast the procedure does look very simple and surprisingly cheap. |

If you frequently hold your steering wheel at the extreme stops, that will burn your steering fluid and burn up the pump as well. You should never hold this position for more than 10-15 seconds.
