Default Jacking Points

Was hoping you could point me in the right direction for the correct jacking points on an 05 Pilot. It is my sis-in-laws and I'll be changing her oil this weekend.

Last time I changed it, I jacked it up just behind the front ps wheel using a 2x4 so I could get my jack stand in place. There's gotta be a central location up front to do this from, no?

Also where can I find the rear jacking point for future reference when I rotate her tires?

Thanks!

They are in the owners manual.

The rear is a plate hanging down from the VTM unit, and the front is the two loop (I think) or the center of the front cross member (maybe)

Here's a pic for reference for the rear (thanks to ecsw). It's the metal bar to the right of the VTM-4 fluid drain/fill holes. Front jacking point is the center tow hook underneath. For your jackstands, there are notches on the side frame rails that work fine - shouldn't have to use 2x4s.

Thanks....I must have overlooked them in the owners manual the first change.

Thanks for the pics....they'll help out a lot!

And I used a piece of 2x4 across the jack to create a flat surface since I lifted it from the side frame rail. Once I got it high enough I slid my jack stand underneath.

That's the method I've seen used for lifts but right in front of the rails are notches for jackstands and the sprae tire jack....look at pg. 198 of the OM.

Hmmmm...I think you are misunderstanding me.

When I changed the oil the first time I was unsure of the center jacking point so I went to the side frame rail and positioned my floor jack there. The car no sooner started lifting and I noticed the jack was putting pressure on the sill and there was no good way for me to center the jack itself on the frame rail w/o hitting the sill. So I grabbed a piece of 2x4, placed it on the jack in order to raise the car, doing no damage to the sill. I then placed the jack stand under the frame rail and lowered the car onto the jack stand.

Guess I should have clarified earlier. lol

What weight capacity and lifting height does a floor jack need for the Pilot?

I've only used the scissor jack for oil change and tire rotation, and it's a pain.

My floor jack is 3-ton and the lift range is 5 1/2" to 19". It's primarily used for my Protege5 but I got this one when we bought our MPV and now it comes in handy with the Pilot.

The investment is well worth it! I can't imagine doing a tire rotation with only the scissor jack.....

IIRC I picked mine up at Sears just after Christmas on sale for $80.

Default Arcan floor jack

Anybody know anything about the Arcan brand of floor jacks? I have my eye on this one:

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...5429_200345429

Of the 18 reviews, 17 are 5/5 stars and 1 is 4/5. I couldn't find much information about Arcan elsewhere. I'm going to be in Charlotte this weekend, so I might pick one up at the b&m store to save the $60-some shipping.

The jack looks like a good one but shipping cost is outrageous. $66 to MD!

No kidding. I called the Charlotte store and they don't have one in stock, and wouldn't get one until after I'm already back home. So now I have my eye on this one:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=67022

It's only 2-ton, but according to the the sticker on the b-pillar the GVWR is a little under 3 tons, and I'd only be lifting half of an unloaded vehicle. Low min. height of 2.75" and adequate max of 19.5". It doesn't have the 2-gear release mechanism, which I guess is good. Plus there are two nearby HF stores.

I found one at Costco a few weeks ago that has similar specs to the Arcan. IIRC it's just over $100. I'm planning to go there this weekend so I'll post back with more info.

I've had 2x4's split on me while jacking a car up. I don't recommend it.

Get yourself a pinch weld jack adapter.

I happen to own one of these:

Works perfectly on all my cars.
