Default MM B16 code, 66k miles.

This spring we got the Mrs. an '06 pilot - the 4wd one. We bough it right at 60k miles. When we got it the oil had been just changed by the dealer prior to it's sale, and the week we got it I replaced the atf, vtm-4, and pollen filter (which had never been replaced before) basically did a 45k and a 60k combined. (by the earlier maintenance standards.)

Now, at 66k miles the MM light is coming on with the code B16, oil change and vtm-4 fluid.

Do these vehicles have an actual fluid life sensor, or is it just a maintenance time / mileage calculator? I seriously doubt the fluid needs to be changed again after 6k miles.

I just changed the oil and I figured out how to reset the light, but if it is a time / mileage / load calculated value, I guess it means my vtm-4 fluid reminder isn't going to be accurate.... I'm fine with replacing it according to the earlier service interval. I'm a believer in earlier and not completely necessary maintenance vs. later maintenance.

Site says

engine oil, rotate tires and Vtm fluid.

If you have replaced it already I wouldn't worry about it. And yes the computer uses a calculation and that it doesn't magically know that your vtm fluid actually needs to be replaced.
________

Replace engine oil1 and oil filter

Inspect front and rear brakes

Check parking brake adjustment

Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots

Inspect suspension components

Inspect driveshaft boots

Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS)

Inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids

Inspect exhaust system#

Inspect fuel lines and connections#

It is a "Smart" time/mileage calculator.

It takes into account number of starts, time at temp, and a few other wear indicating metrics from the ecu.
