Default Service ahead of MM reminder

Maintenance schedule question for any 2006 owners out there:

I have a 2006 Pilot with ~37K miles. I've always done exactly what the MM tells me to do shortly after the 15% oil life reminder pops up. Problem: I'm currently at 30% oil life and I have a long road trip coming up in a few weeks, so I need to get service done before the MM tells me what's needed.

I found the following list on the Edmunds maintenance guide for 30K service:

  • Air filter

  • Automatic transmission fluid

  • Cabin air filter

  • Engine oil

  • Oil filter

  • Rear differential fluid

  • Brake fluid (not on Edmunds but the manual says to change every 3 years regardless of MM)

Now my MM has never told me to change the transmission fluid and the last service was done at ~32K, so I'm not sure how accurate this is. Does this list look about right for a ~37K service?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

the list sounds about right to me. my "30k" maintenance did not show up on the MM until around 45k, and it pretty much covered everything on that list. don't forget the small things like tire rotation and brake/belt inspections!

Great, thanks for the info. I get the tires rotated with each service and the place I use does the inspections with every oil change, so I didn't think to add those to the list.

What you can do is reset the MM and it'll tell you what service is coming up. You'll then need to write it down and then perform the needed service items.

You'll find this info in the September 2005 ServiceNews on page 7 (look at the top of the right hand column):

Quote:
For owners who only drive their vehicles
occasionally, and the oil life never reaches 15% at
the end a 12-month period since the engine oil
was last replaced, the engine oil should be
replaced and the oil life indicator reset to 100%.
When resetting the oil life indicator, the system
will flash the maintenance item code that would
have come up when the oil life reached 15%.
Make sure all maintenance is done according to
that maintenance item code.
This applies to those that don't have to service at least once a year. But, you can use the same procedure to perform your service early.

Enjoy your trip!
Larry.

I'd do an oil change, not reset the MM, and then do the usual service when it comes up after you return from the trip. I very much doubt that all the things in your list are likely to come up at the next interval.

Are you really sure the MM will even get to 0% during your trip? The MM system is very conservative and there is absolutely no issue whatsoever taking it to 0% or even a little beyond.

Thanks for this - I wasn't aware that you could see the code by resetting the MM. (Probably would have figured this out before if I wasn't too lazy to change my own oil. )

I've already done the maintenance now, but this will be good to know for future reference.

I definitely would have gone beyond 0% while on my trip. I'm sure I was being overly cautious by doing all the maintenance I did, but I guess next time I'll know that I can reset the MM and just do what it tells me. I just like to be absolutely sure I get all the recommended maintenance done on schedule since I've still got about 4 years of warranty left.
