Default 2006 brake job difference in price between dealerships

Long story short, not all Honda dealerships charge the same price for maintenance work. Read below for additional information if you're interested.

My wife's 2006 Pilot has logged ~52,000 miles since we bought it new in May 2006. The slight wear indicator squeal from the front rotors told me that her vehicle was due for its first brake job. I am surprised that the pads lasted so long.

I called the service center for the dealer that we bought the vehicle from and was quoted $429 to do a front/back brake job. I was also quoted $80 to flush the brake fluid. This seemed high to me, so I called another dealer that is 10 minutes down the freeway. The second dealer told me that a front/back brake job would be $369 and a brake fluid flush would cost $40. The second dealer fit my wife's vehicle in immediately and provided a free loaner (Civic) all day. When all was said and done they also gave her a $25 coupon to apply towards the work and rotated her tires.

I figured that all dealerships in close proximity would charge the same rate for maintenance work. I found out today that this is not the case and it pays to shop around.

Good job shopping around.

What are the 2 dealerships you priced?

My '04 Pilot turns 5 yrs old on May 31, and I have 63,500 miles on the original brakes! And I tow my boat to Lake Somerville a BUNCH during the summer months. Not even close to the wear indicators yet.

I do my own maintanence and inspect my brakes and suspension pretty much monthly.

The two dealerships were McDavid Honda and Honda of Clear Lake, both of which are located on the Gulf Freeway (I-45). Honda of Clear Lake had the lower price.
