Default Shell's Nitrition added Gasoline

I saw the Shell gasoline commercial with added nitrition gasoline the other day and wasn't sure if it has any merit. Does it really work like it claim? Is it worth spending the extra money pumping that stuff. It doesn't seems like it worth the money to me but others in this forum might think differently.

Probably marketing hype to separate the Shell brand from others. I haven't seen any info or tests that can support their claims.

If you're going to start a thread about something most of us have never heard of, please provide a link to some reference material.

At least get the spelling correct - nitrogen

Nitrogen??? ... I thought it was "Nutrition"... lol

http://www.shell.us/home/content/usa...e_experts.html

The guys at Shell have found a way to destroy gunk with all three grades of Shell gasoline! Every drop of Shell gasoline contains a NEW Nitrogen Enriched cleaning system that seeks and destroys engine gunk in both conventional and modern engines. There's nothing else like it.

It doesn't seem to cost any more than the previous Shell gasoline. I'm on my 4th tank of it in my other car. Next, I'll run 4 tanks of another brand and see if my slightly reduced mileage is perhaps just a result of fun driving in Spring. No other noticable effects, of course, as this is meant to be of long-term benefit, especially for newer cars with direct injection or higher compression ratios. Not an endorsement, BTW, just my experience so far.

Isn't nitrogen practically inert?

Maybe they'll make helium-enriched propane next.

Can I put the nitrogen in my tires instead?

Amine compounds contain Nitrogen. I believe that Polyether Amine is the primary ingredient in Chevron's Techron. My guess is that Shell has developed a new Amine based cleaning compound.

Shell's use of the word "Nitrogen" in their new marketing campaign is interesting though. One could argue that Shell has treated their gasoline with Amine for quite some time. With that thought in mind, the million dollar question then becomes has Shell changed their additive package at all?

If you do have N in your tires the upside would be you could siphon some into your tank of "normal" gasoline and maybe get the same gunk reducing benefit.

After giving it some thought, maybe I was wrong. Maybe it is better to post unintelligible nonsense like a riddle so that we all have to "Google it" to try and figure out what the F#%K you're talking about. That's fun.

Here's to the defenders of illiteracy and ignorance.

I am very much for proper spelling but also tolerate occasional spelling mishap...
Getting back to the original subject
Shell claims that they improved cleaning power and prevention of engine build-up of their gasoline with enriching it with nitrogen. I think they call it nitrogen-enhanced gasoline. I've never heard about nitrogen cleaning anything except maybe the pocket cleaning in nitrogen tire fills business. It might, however, work with other compounds improving their action. I don't know. I suspect they use the trendy word for marketing purposes because using the chemical names of their new detergents would be boring and complicated for consumers.
Shell already produces a first tier gasoline with excellent detergent package, and so does Chevron, 76 and number of others.. If Shell significantly improved their gas it will probably not show in first several tanks. It will be a long term effect most likely not noticeable by individuals.
I try to play it safe and get my gas at different vendors as soon as they are top tier. They have superior detergent package in their product and it might pay on the longer run. I also get my gas at Costco (cheap!) but try not to stick to one brand for a longer time.

Who's in charge of this list: Top Tier Gas? Is there anything to it?

Is there any difference between buying gas with additives and just adding a bottle of injector cleaner to your tank every once in a while?
