Anyone noticing a bit of a rhythmic "whirring" sound from their motor? 2007 just turned over 60K; had it at the dealer for an unrelated matter before the warranty expired and asked that they check it over, and they found nothing.
However, I do hear a "whir whir whir" and to me it sounds like the drive belts are a bit noisy; I'm wondering if a tensioner would sound like that too. It's hard to diagnose a car that seemingly runs fine... The whirring is in addition to the (I assume injector-related) slight ticking that it's always done. Thanks! SD |

At 60k, it's not unreasonable to change out a belt. However, it could indeed be a bearing on something like a tensioner, idler, or an accessory. Take a length of hose and use it as a stethoscope, and point it at each spinning thing, and see which is loudest.

My 04 has about 70K miles... I don't have any belt issues, but was wondering about when folks generally have gotten their belts (AC compressor, power steering, etc... not timing) replaced. I certainly understand the process of checking them for cracks, etc. As I remember, the maintenance schedule only has inspect (replace if necessary) milestones.
