Default Coolant

Purchased my '04 Pilot about a year ago with 65K on her. I just noted the coolant is green compared to the blue coolant in my wife's '06 Odyssey. Honda apparently discontinued green coolant several years ago. One dealer said it was OK to add blue into the green but another dealer said the green was bad news and get it out ASAP.

Thanks ahead of time for any imput. Great site, just signed up!

My '04 Pilot is just a couple of months shy of 5 yrs old, 63,000 miles and still has the OEM green in it.

Honda doesn't recommend changing until close to 100,000 miles or so and my cooling system is also clean as a whistle.

IIRC, those expensive Acura autos and SUVs use the bluish/green that is in our Pilots too. I wouldn't worry about it at all, that is what the Honda factory put in there.

Now, Dexcool is a different story. Usually found in Chevys, it really seems to gum up the system and put an oily slime throughout the coolant internals... nothing a Honda/Acura owner has to worry about.

Jestmatey, Thanks for the advice! My coolant, likewise, looks sparkling clean but is not bluish-green but bright kiwi green. The coolant in my reservoir is below the minimum mark, is it OK to add the new Honda blue to my old green coolant?

Yup! I know this says Acura on the jug, but I'm told it is the same as Honda approved fluid. Blue in color, already premixed 50/50 so no diluting necessary.

I put some of this stuff in several years ago and it has never been a problem.
