Question New Transmission - New Shift Points?

I got a new transmission (Thanks HondaCare!) at just under 100K about 2 months ago. It is now clear that it shifts quite differently, both up and down, than the original did at any time in its lifetime. This is most noticeable when doing a "passing" maneuver, from say 50 to 80 under hard acceleration. It will drop to 3rd for a long time, then 4th and 5th come almost without a break. The old one would stay in 4th much longer. Is this just an acceptable variation, or should I take it in to have them examine how this rebuilt tranny is calibrated?

I would ask. Maybe it is in still in some adaptive mode and has to relearn your driving style. But maybe they used rebuilt transmission that had some other issue. It is hard to imagine that they got the wrong transmission installed (one with different physical gear ratios, or some other variation from year to year) and got it to work but who knows.

See if the dealer will let you drive another Pilot of your year to compare. Drive it around and see if it compares to your old transmission or to your new one.

Default Honda care gave you a new transmission?

How did this work? warranty runs out well before 100K even with the odometer warranty extension

I didn't think I would need it with Honda, I got 150k out of a trans on a Pontiac with no maintenance. I change all fluids per schedule on this Pilot and according to other threads here I am now experiencing symptoms of an impending failure which will require full trans replacement. I have 99K on the vehicle which I purchased new and drive like a granny.

My inlaws had theirs done at 60k and it never shifted the same as it did before. Now they're approaching 120k and the shift points are very noticeable. I would still recommend as others have, to have it checked out.

I am beginning to loose faith with Honda. I got 100K 5yr (expires 12/4/09) extended warranty for my Pilot. At 93K miles, I am experiencing lound transmission whines at all time but so far dealer has refused to address that saying it's normal characteristics of Honda transmission at high mileage. I have owned Nissan, Toyota, Lexus and Honda for the first time with my Pilot. I tend purchase new to keep my car for a long time, over 180K miles most of the times and 280K with my Toy Celica (I love that car). With those , I was worried about engine and tranny issues, only minor issues such as alternator, water pump, AC, switches falling off.

Per other threads and threads and on mdx site search "rumble strip" it is one of those intermediate problems that is hard to notice such as when a stealer test drives it, because its getting progressivly worse I plan on taking to stealer and they will most likely notice it now, i did call H about it and they said be sure and build a paper trail of attempts to fix for future out of warranty good will consideration, which from what i have seen on these forums is usually they cover parts and you pay labor which is around $2K...basically suffer with the noise anxiety until it fails. This is bs and is truly the end of the innocence on my part in thinking that H quality is flawless. Love the vehicle otherwise but this specific event basically opened the door much wider for me to shop other brands when the time comes as my expectations of H have been substantially lowered. Currently many other car makers are covering power train to 10/100 or better, did i mention i have got 99K on mine?
