Default Full size spare tire

Hola everyone. I own a 2004 Honda Pilot EXL with Navi.

I often go to the mountains for snowboarding or camping. The last thing I would like to happen to me is be stuck in snow with a my only spare tire as a compact spare tire.

Does anyone know if the 2004 Honda Pilots can hold a full sized spare tire under the car? I would like to purchase a full sized spare but I don't know what to do to get one.

Fill me in fellas.

You can use a full size tire from any 2003-2007 Pilot as a spare. Check your owner's manual. You'll notice that in the section about changing a flat tire, they have you put the flat tire where the compact spare goes.

A local salvage yard would be a good place to begin searching for a wheel, or a wheel with tire. It doesn't matter if it is a steel or alloy wheel from another 03-07 Pilot.

I got a 2006 steel wheel from eBay and put a full-sized spare on my 2008 today. I was worried that it would cut down on the ground clearance (departure angle), but looking at it now it's clear that it hangs no lower than the muffler, so no real difference there.

I hate those temporal spares, so I'm happy we have the room for a full sized one.

i was lucky enough to find a full-size spare right here on hp.org with an alloy wheel. i believe honda element wheels have the same lug pattern as pilots, so you might keep an eye out for those, too.

element, rdx and mdx have the same bolt pattern. other honda cars, too, but i'm not sure of the offset. the odyssey has an oddball pattern.

i kept one of my oem aluminum wheel/tires and mounted it under with no issue when i upgraded to 18" rdx wheels.

May I ask how much you paid on eBay for your full-size wheel?

I bought an alloy wheel and tire off Craigslist for $60. They come up once in awhile but not often. Try a salvage place. Be sure to replace the tire when it gets over 10 years old. Tires degrade over time due to UV, ozone, etc. even if not used.

It depends on the hitch. If it's the OEM one it will fit.

It all depends, and some companies have changed the design of their hitch.

Just drop the spare, put it on the car, take the full tire and see if it fits.

Less that 30 min,
I "For Sure" answer,
And you exercise the crank for the spare so it does not get stuck.

Can someone who has a full size spare tell me if it hangs down more than the donut spare? I know someone said already that it doesn't reduce clearance because it doesn't hang down below the muffler, but can you actually see the spare better from the back if you have the full size one?

Right now with the donut, it's barely visible.
