I was wondering if anyone has done a power steering pump replacement? How difficult is it? Anyone have the repair manual procedures for it?
Thanks!

mrkatt,
I have a 2003 pilot with 103K miles. Before I brought it in for the 105K water pump/timing belt change the PS pump started to squeal while idling and driving. When I finally brought it in for the water pump/timing belt change I mentioned the squeal to the service coordinator. After taking if for a drive he indicated that the noise came from the PS pump and that it would need to be replaced. Bear in mind the squeal occurs when the temp drops to about 40 and lower. Currently the temps here are about 65 or so and I don't notice the squeal. I have also tried using belt dressing during the cold period to fix the squeal but that didn't work.

Well,
to replace the pump is easy, if you have the right tools, and knowledge. But, it is easier to have them do it. This is because pilots 03,04 have p/s pumps that the belts need to be properly tensioned (05 and newer pilots have a serpentine that covers the p/s pump) , or you may destroy the bearing in the p/s pump (I did this on my acura tl, had dealer replace it)! So, my advice is to buy a pump, dealer should charge only 1/2 hr to install. You should be looking at no more then $400 total install w/new pump. jason |

Apart from the squeal if its working ok, ensure its got enough fluid in it and drive.

Jason/Rocky,
Thanks for the advice. For the time being I think I will follow Rocky's advice and keep driving with it. However, when it's time to replace it I think I'll go with Jason's thread and have the dealer do it. Thanks guys
