Question Which Mobil-1 oil is better

Hi all!

I'm planning to start changing the motor oil myself.
From all the posts on this site I'm getting a picture that Mobil One 5W-20 or 5W-30 is the preferred brand.
Just checked our local auto parts(Kragen) store web site and they have three types of Mobil One 5W-30.
They are:

1)Mobil1 Motor Oil: 5W30 Mobil(R) 1 Synthetic; 32 oz.
2)Mobil1 Motor Oil: 5W30; Mobil(R) 1 Extended Performance; Synthetic; 32 oz.
3)Mobil1 Motor Oil: 5W30; Mobil(R) 1 SUV & Truck; 32 oz.
Any suggestions as to which one is better?
Also, the oil filter that i found is 15400-PLM-A02 type but I would like to get a 15400-PCX-004. Does any one know where i might find it? or should I go with some other filter all together?
Thank you all in advance!

What is the difference between Mobil 1® Extended Performance and Mobil 1?

Mobil 1 Extended Performance formulas are designed specifically for today's longer service intervals and are guaranteed to protect for up to 15,000 miles or one year.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance has a unique formulation with a boosted level of protection and performance. Mobil 1 Extended Performance, with the Advanced SuperSyn System, contains 50 percent more SuperSyn than Mobil 1. (Updated March 2006)

*******************

Mobil 1 Truck & SUV's key benefits include:

Extra performance additive helps provide exceptional performance under all operating conditions, and additional protection for engines that operate under heavy load or stress, including towing, hauling and other severe service.

Unique fully synthetic formula helps reduce the formation of harmful engine deposits and sludge to keep engines cleaner longer.

Outstanding performance during the maximum oil change interval recommended in your owner's manual.

Approved for use and exceeds warranty requirements for gasoline, turbocharged and diesel engines in the following applications:

ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5-04
GM 6094M

I have used mobil 1 0W/20 on my pilot exlres until 100,000 miles. after that have used the mobil 1 5W/30 extended performance and have changed my oil change interval from every 7K miles to 13K-14K mile interval. I am now at 153,000 miles with no problems.

That's what their site says about Mobil-1
Mobil 1 with SuperSyn helps give your car or truck exceptional protection against engine wear, under normal or even the most extreme use. This unique motor oil features a new, proprietary SuperSyn anti-wear technology that provides performance beyond conventional motor oils, allowing Mobil 1 with SuperSyn to exceed even the toughest standards of Japanese, European and U.S. automakers and the oil industry.

And this one about M-1 Extended
You've never seen an oil like this before. Mobil 1 Extended Performance is a new high-endurance motor oil with 36 percent more anti-wear additives and 37 percent more cleaning agents than current Mobil 1 formulations. It is a fully synthetic formulation that helps extend engine life, reduce oil breakdown and minimize engine wear -- all while helping to keep your engine clean. Improvements that add up to exceptional protection for 15,000 miles. Guaranteed.

Marketing and labels are the major difference.

I wouldn't ever change the recommended oil change times (miles or the monitor system) as recommended by Honda.

If you are especially interested in the oil, have it tested after you drain it.

Unless you are way outside the norms, you don't need any synthetic oil.

As for which is "better", who knows and who cares since in the difference between convention oil and synthetic is irrelevant for most people, the difference between one synthetic and another is even less.

If you doubt it ask the experts if they have EVER seen an oil related failure on a properly maintained Honda.

I guess the reason why I was considering Mobil1 Synthetic is the simple fact that most people on this site seem to prefer it over other types and brands. I've driven my Pilot(26.000 miles) under normal driving conditions and replaced oil whenever the minder showed 15% oil life left.
But price for the basic oil change went up from $28 to $40 in recent times and that's when I began thinking that I should start doing it myself and switch from convention to synthetic. No savings really but at least i'll be putting much better oil in the engine. So I think.

I have saved $$$ just doing the oil change myself and increasing the oil change interval to every 14K miles using the 5W/30 EP. total cost is $17 every 7K miles or $34 every 14K miles.

I buy my oem filters from the dealer together with the metal O-ring.

Our local dealer store is where I would normally get the fluids.
I went there last Saturday and they charged me $49 for a gallon of VTM ,
$10.20(x5) per quart of ATZ-1 and $1.50 for each of crusher washers.

WHOA!! That's quite out of line. Even if you were from Canada I would say those prices are high. Time to go to a different dealer.

hey go to ebay and type in... honda pilot powertrain tune up.. there is a guy that sells VTM fluid, 3 qts of atf, oem oil filter, and all the crush washer you would need to change fluids all for $43 shipped to your door. in less then 3 days since your in CA. All oem honda products. all you need is motor oil, get pennzoil platium full synthetic oil, for some reason after checkin my oil around 3k miles it is not as black/dirty looking, compared to other synthetic like mobile1, castrol that I had use in the past...
