Default What is oil "break in"

After 7 months of ownership, my 08 is pop up the code for first oil change (15%) at little less than 5000 miles today. I've read some members here get up to 6k, 7k and the the oil life is still about 40%. Is it because the condition I drive (most the time is local, stop and go). And what is waiting for the oil break in? Should I wait little longer?

There are usually additives that the factory puts in the oil to help the engine break-in properly. Just follow the MM and yes you will change your oil more frequently due to your driving habits as the MM takes that into account.

Change it anytime you like between now and 0% life left.

Most of the EXACT recommendations about oil changes are nothing but myths and legends.

There is far more random stuff going on with engine wear than even the Maintenance Minder keeps track of.
