Im about to help a friend DIY her 2004 pilot oil change this weekend.
I looked up the ol filter for the Pilot, and it seems that originally it was a different filter than other Honda cars, but has been recently changed to the xxxxxxPLM-A02 filter, which is the same filter as the CRV, Element, etc. However, aftermarket filter makers (purolator, mobil1, bosch etc) still have different filter numbers for the Pilot compared to the CRV, Element etc. So are a lot of these filters interchangeable? Will an aftermarket that fits a CRV/Element also fit the Pilot? (i.e. I have plenty of ones that fit the CRV/Element) Thanks. |

Yeah, okay.
It seems that Wix, Amsoil, and Honda all have the same filter for the Pilot, CRV and Element. However, purolator is the only one that has different filters for the Pilot vs. the others. I am making a presumtion that the two different purolators should be interchangeable then. |

I'll add that my '04 Pilot came from the factory with a big, fat, blue filter that was exactly the same dimension as the flange the filter screwed onto.
Shortly thereafter, Honda stopped making the original, fat one and started using a smaller-bodied filter. It was about 1/4" shorter (skinnier) than the OEM. Yet, it was still a Honda parts dept. filter. I guess that sometime in '04, HOnda started using the skinnier filter and it gets kinda screwy when you start cross-referencing aftermarket. I never used the Honda filter after the first year. Only went through about 5 oil changes with the blue, OEM 'cause I bought a 4 pack of them online. Now I use Wix, Bosch, or Mobil 1 filters only.

I also have a 04 Pilot, 04 Acura TL, 96 Acura Integra, 98 4cy & 2000 6cy Accord. Got 3 of the 5 new. I use Castrol 5w30 and WIX 51334 on all every 3,500 miles. I buy a case of 12 filters at a time.
