Default Maintenence minder

Assuming honda requires service interals to be followed when doing maint work...how does that jive with the MM system?

What would keep a guy from re-setting his MM when it gets down too low? How would honda know if people were not trying to stretch out their oil change times by doing this?

I am not too certain about the MM system. I drive on gravel roads quite a bit. In my rural state it is common knowledge that driving on gravel roads significantly reduce oil change interval times due to dust contamination.

THere is now way for the MM to know if I am drving on Gravel.

Do what you want. It's YOUR Honda! The MM tells you when service is required. Its up to you to get it done or ignore it.
I have an 05 Ody MM told me that my tranny needed service at 50121 miles. I didn't ask why it was early, I don't tow anything with it. It must have looked out the window while we were traversing the backroads accross the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Rio Grande Valley and thought all that climbing and steep decents deserved a tranny fluid change. The oil was still at 70%. I took it in and got the work done.
The Honda MM computer is pretty smart.

Pre MM days, owners had to decide whether they were working on normal or severe schedule and service accordingly.

I'm guessing that the MM accomodates the journey type and tells you what to do.

You'll note that if you read the owner's manual, it states that if you drive on dusty roads or tow to follow the "severe" schedule, regardless of what the MM says.

For most owners, the MM is dead-accurate, but it can only measure what it can measure- operating temperature, runtime, total revolutions, load.
