Default Engine Cover?

I was trying to get to my spark plugs today to see how bad they look. In the process of taking the large plastic engine cover off (#8 on the image) I broke one of the bolts (#13 on the image). My question is can I run my pilot without that plastic cover till I get a replacement bolt??

I think it's fine, I think the cover is more for looks than for function, maybe except to keep dust and other crap from getting on top of the engine.

Thanks Humanoid, I didn't figure it was a problem but I wanted somebody thought. I never did get to the spark plugs. I was hoping to find them when I got that cover off but I didn't.

Does anybody know if the are any picture threads that show how to get to the plugs?

Another question. Do you think I should replace that bolt w/OEM part or do you think I can take it to a hardware store?

My Local Stealer wants $7 for the bolt and they have to order it. College Hills wants $1.70 plus $14.50 shipping and handling.

If the bolt is a standard metric bolt, you can usually get them at a hardware store, but if it has a special shoulder or shape, I'd get the Honda part.

Removing the plugs is pretty easy for the front side, but its tight on the back side. The plugs have an integral coil pack over each plug secured by a bolt. You disconnect the coil packs electrically, remove the bolts, and then remove the coil pack to get to the plug. This isn't like changing plugs in a 1985 Corolla.

Don't take this wrong, but if you're breaking stuff just getting the cover off the engine, you might want to have someone else do it. Or just let it ride - these are rated to go 100K+ and unless there is a problem, I wouldn't do anything with them before this mileage.

I believe that "bolt" is actually a dzus fastener.
