Default Dropped $600 today...

...on a new timing belt at Sanford Honda in Sanford, NC. The service department is top notch by the way.

I was curious as to what others were paying for timing belt replacement service and never found anything on the site so I thought I'd offer a data point. Their service included timing belt, water pump, all other belts, and a coolant flush.

How does $600 compare to what others are seeing?

Also they told me I was due for power steering fluid replacement. I have never heard of such a thing (replacing this fluid). Am I missing something?

Thanks
Matt

Power steering fluid changes aren't on the service schedule.

But if it makes you feel better, you can suck whats visible out of the reservoir with a turkey-baster, and top it off with fresh fluid every 2-3 years. It's not a total change, but it's pretty easy to do for something not required.

BTW, use genuine Honda power steering fluid. This is not one of the fluids that you can safely substitute (like oil & brake)

Great suggestion for him to follow. I like the turkey baster idea.
Honda PSF is only 3.50 or so. I wouldn't be substituting with any other fluid. I will stick with this fluid.
Getting back on track......I am curious to see what the cost of doing the timing belt averages. If I had 90,000-100,000 miles I would do this myself and post it here but I am only at 34,000 miles on my 05, so you might be waiting awhile.

I used to have an Accord with 273,000 miles on it and the PS pump would drip a bit. So I always kept a couple of bottles in the garage. Way cheaper than the repair -- something I wasn't going to do on a car that old, anyway.
