Default ATF Overfill

Hi guys, I have a 2004 pilot EXL with 4wd.

I recently checked my ATF fluid and noticed that it was a bit low, meaning it was at the lower mark of the yellow dipstick. I went to the auto store and purchased some temporary ATF for my tranny and added one full quart to the car (Yes I should have checked the levels as I added it). But when i rechecked the fluid, i noticed that it was about an inch above the upper mark after my car has been sitting idle for over 2 hours. I plan on dumping out the fluid and refilling it properly in one week, since I do not have the time to do it right away.

Do should I change the fluid right away or can I wait one week to do a full ATF flush?

Regards,

-Albert

Sorry guys. What I meant to say is that the car has been sitting with the engine OFF for over 2 hours.

Default ATF Overfill

The level should be checked after the vehicles been driven. Check with the engine off. I wouldn't worry about draining a bit out if your going to flush it in a week.

I just changed my ATF the other day. The dealer said 3.3 L should come out, since the torque convertor is still full. I added too much as well, and realized it that checking the the level when idling falsely shows high as well.

Good Luck,
Mike

You're not supposed to use non-Honda ATF-Z1 fluid in this car. You can run for a short while with the wrong fluid, but you should change it at your earliest opportunity. Now... the procedure for when the wrong fluid is to change the transmission fluid 3 times (since you can't easily do a full flush).

How bad off are you after adding a whole quart, I don't know. One thing to keep in mind- transmission fluid doesn't evaporate or get otherwise consumed. If you are seriously low on transmission fluid, you have a leak somewhere. You should never have to add a whole quart to a transmission that doesn't leak.
