specifically a front motor mount. wife took our 05 exl into dealer for 60000 service and they said the front motor mount has failed and wanted an additional 390 to fix it (parts and labor). i am very mechanically inclined and am going to tackle this myself but wanted some input from someone who has been there done that. i found a genuine honda motor mount online for $92 shipped and also purchased a factory service manual. im sure ths will have all the info needed but if anyone has tips or an idea of scale of difficulty i would appreciate it. from what i understand the procedure involves lifting the front end, supporting the engine, and dropping the front subframe. this will allow access to the front mount. sounds easy enough. oh well thanks in advance....this site has been very informative.

I have not done one on a Pilot yet (even though mine needs one as well, but it's got over 100K miles on it) but you may be able to loosen up the other mounts enough to be able to jack up the engine high enough to replace the mount without messing with the front subframe. Don't forget to use a 2x4 or something between the jack and oilpan/tranny whichever you're going to be lifting. I think there are a total of 3 bolts and 1 nut (probably either 14mm or 17mm tools needed) Good luck.

Note that I had to take it to a Honda specialist to have the motor mount changed because I didn't have the time to do it myself before leaving on a road trip. Had them save the part so I could see how it failed.
I talked to the tech who changed it and he confirmed that once you have the lower bolts loose/out you can place a jack under the trans pan (use a piece of plywood between jack and pan) and push the engine block up where it will clear the block bolts so you can finish removing it. Said it is tight quarters, but more tedious than difficult. Be sure to check the ride side mount (see photos on the other thread) as a failed front mount often leads to a failed side mount.

the right side mount is still in good shape so i want to get this done asap to keep it that way. belundy do you know if you need to remove the subframe to get at the mount? just looking at it through the engine compatment it looks as though i just need to lift the front end and support the engine under the pan with jack and block of wood. i guess ill find out soon enough. the mount will be here on monday along with the factory service manual. tahnks for the reply's.

you've probably already figured out that you do NOT have to remove the subframe. Let us know how the event went and what you found with the old mount.

I just ordered a right front and main motor mount and plan on doing it myself. Not exactly sure what I'm getting into but I was able to order the Chilton's manual for our Pilots (apparently it just came out). Anyway, there is no mention of dropping the sub frame to change out the front mount. Although it may be tight quarters and like someone else mentioned, a bit tedious rather than difficult. In fact, it appears rather straightforward...mainly jacking the motor to relieve pressure on the mounts. When I do this job, I'll try to take pictures and post them.
I have 87,xxx miles on my '03 and I must say I'm not very impressed with Honda parts. I have NEVER had to deal with motor mounts and having to change them out on this Pilot seems extreme. No 4 wheelin', just regular ol' driving. |

thats what i was thinking just looking into the engine bay that removing the subframe wasnt necessary. my mount should be coming in the mail today. i got it at hondapartsdeals.com for 80 plus shipping. the dealer locally wanted 140 plus tax and another 237 for install. pretty ridiculous. ill probably get around to changing it this coming weekend and ill try to take to take some pics as well. i also went to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm and reported the failure of the motor mount. anybody else who has had this problem i recommmend to do the same. maybe we can eventually get a tsb or recall on these mounts. there is no way it should be failing at 55,000 miles. anyway sorry for the rant. good luck with your install and please post your results.

82K on mine, and the passenger side mount went. Thought it was an oil leak at first after seeing some drops on the garage floor. Took a look around, and the mount is definitely leaking. I called my mechanic, and hes going to verify for me tomorrow night that it actually is the mount - and quote me on the fix price. Im 99.9% positive it is.
